New to RVing? Check Out These Top Tips to Make Your Life Easier

Are you new to the RV life? This exciting new adventure is only the beginning to your worldly travels. Being a part of the RV family is bigger than just the area you live in. When you purchase your first RV, you can begin to explore the wonderful world of traveling. Now it is just you and the open road! Start to plan your trip to the capital building or to see the wildlife at Yellowstone! There is so much to see and now you have the opportunity to see it.

As you start to learn the ins and outs and dos and don’ts of RVing, there are tips and tricks that you can use to make the entire process a little bit easier. You can learn different ways to set up and tear down the site, easy tricks to conserve space, and some ideas on what things to pack. You may think you know what RV life will be like, but you have no idea! The best is truly yet to come. Take note of some of these tips!

Things to pack on your camping trip

Stick to the basics but add a few things. The biggest thing to remember is pack extra of certain items, and not too many of unnecessary things. For example, bring extra trash bags, towels, and layers of clothing. Do not pack clothing you know you won’t wear, extra makeup you know you won’t put on, and other items that you don’t plan to use more than once.

Some other specific items you should purchase and pack are:

-Collapsible trash cans and laundry baskets. These can be stored pretty much anywhere and can be used in several areas of the RV.

-Always pack extra clothes pins. You can attach magnets to the back and you can use them to hang things up around the RV.

-Bungee straps. These can be used to keep cabinets and doors closed when you are driving. You can also use these to wrap things up and keep them secure.

-Cooking equipment. Just because you are on the road doesn’t mean you can’t have good meals! Aluminum foil (for campfire meals), a few pots and pans, silverware and plates for your guests.

Ways to protect your items when camping

One thing you may notice (if you don’t prepare properly) is some banging and potentially breaking of things in your RV as you drive! That is why it is so important to pack the right way, so your stuff is safe whether you are driving or staying put. Here are some tips you can use to pack all your belongings with extra care!

-Put koozies over your wine glasses, or any special glasses that you use. This is the cheapest and easiest way to protect your pricey items.

-Get some non-stick pads and put them in your cabinets so the dishes don’t move around. You can also place towels in between the dishes so there is no banging.

-Mount your electric cords so they do not get tangled and you don’t have to worry about losing electricity.

-Also be prepared to protect the exterior of your RV when necessary. Have with you a jack, spare tire and anything you need to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.

Camp Cooking 101

Don’t just stick to smores and hot dogs when you are planning a camping trip! There are literally hundreds of amazing meals that you can make over a campfire or something quick in the RV. The trick: Plan your meals ahead of time. Make sure that your fridge or coolers are stocked with what you need. You may not be able to prepare for the weather or what your days look like, but planning your meals is something you can do ahead of time, get everyone’s input and make sure that you have what you need when the time comes. This is something people tend to overlook and try to figure out when they are there, but this will save you tons of time and stress during your trip.

Hopefully you are more prepared and ready to hit the road! Start getting excited and get rid of any unwanted stress about your new RV lifestyle! There is so much to look forward to in the upcoming years.  Just think of the places you will get to see and memories you will make with people you love most. Welcome to the wonderful world of RVing!

Full time RVer’s Guide to Roadschooling

Full time RVer’s Guide to Roadschooling

Back to school we go! September means fall, cooler weather and time for school. As some kids get their school schedule, new backpacks, and curriculum, other kids are participating in a more, non-traditional form of school. Roadschooling is essentially different forms of schooling from your RV! This gives children the opportunity to have a full curriculum if desired, while also learning about things from your trip. From traveling to different areas of the country and learning about our country’s rich history and landmarks, you can really bring those textbooks to life. Here are some benefits and tips if you plan on roadschooling your kids this year!

Benefits of Roadschooling

Take full advantage of the lifestyle on the road. Roadschooling gives your children the opportunity to not only learn and grow like a typical child, but also to experience things and places that most kids only dream to go. You can decide to teach a curriculum based on your travel plans, rather than that typical classroom structure. Your kids can learn about Yellowstone as you drive through the park; they can experience government policies while you are parked near the Lincoln memorial, or discover the habitats of alligators as you cruise around The Everglades.

This is a great way to spend time together as well. When your kids are in the public-school system, it is hard to see what they go through and what they are learning. This is a way to take their learning process into your own hands and show them what they can expect out of life as well as textbooks.

You can be as traditional or non-traditional as you would like! You can go the homeschooling route, or you can totally rely on the location of your travels! This gives you the opportunity of total flexibility with your kids schedule and education.

Different Types of Roadschooling

Roadschooling does not mean that every family takes the same approach. There are several different paths you can take when educating your children on the road. Here are some different types of roadschooling!

Homeschooling method– This way, the parents can stick to a stricter curriculum regardless of where they are traveling. This can help the kids stay in line with their classmates back home in case road schooling is only for a partial part of the year.

Lit-based schooling– This could work if you want to focus more on the arts. It allows you to read more books, and study nature and art while you are out on the road. Depending on where you are traveling, this could be very beneficial for your kids!

Online Schooling– If you want to be a little more hands off and let the kids still utilize a teacher, online schooling is the way to go. They can stick to a curriculum and schedule and they can do all of their schooling online.

Eclectic schooling– This is a combination of different types of schooling. Most parents believe that this is the best way to teach their children. They can stick to a curriculum, maybe do 1 online class, teach them as they go, and you can seize every opportunity that comes your way on the road!

Tips for Roadschooling

Set up an area in your RV specifically for school. Your RV is not going to be very big for school and living, even you have a fifth wheel or destination trailer. It is important to separate school from leisure as much as possible when choosing to roadschool.

Pick a time in the day if you are doing homeschooling so that you can stay as consistent as possible. If you are incorporating your travels and destinations into your learning, then this may be difficult to do. With children, the more consistent you can be, the better.

Mix it up! Eclectic learning is a great to add a little bit of everything when you are choosing to educate your kids on the road. It is okay to have a curriculum set so you know they are not falling behind. It is okay to use your destinations as an amazing learning opportunity. And it is okay to focus on unit studies throughout the year. You can also look at adding a few online classes to keep the kids focused and for subjects that you typically don’t focus on as much when you are traveling.
