Enjoy Zydeco Music

Did you know our town of Opelousas, Louisiana is known as the Zydeco Music Capital of the World? Louisiana legislature officially gave Opelousas this title in 2000, but it has long been the case. This style of music was created by French Creole speakers and blends blues, R&B and indigenous music into one flavorful style, all centered around the accordion. Opelousas is actually the birthplace of the accordionist known as the King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier.

You can learn more about him and other influential Zydeco musicians at the Zydeco Music Exhibit at Le Vieux Village Heritage Park.
